Soil Classifier/Project Manager

Davis Engineering & Surveying, LLC is looking for a motivated, skilled, and experienced individual to fill the position of Soil Classifier/Project Manager. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of soil classifying experience (fieldwork and/or project management) and will be a self-starter, capable of working both independently (1-person crew) and with other surveying and engineering professionals.

Duties

Produce necessary fieldwork for each assigned project quickly and efficiently through the use of current surveying equipment and technology including GPS, hand augers, computers, and other devices.

Communicate findings to engineer and/or geologist, timely transfer all necessary project files, and keep adequate field notes for each project.

Prepare soil reports for review and draft boring maps.

Teach crew members on the job with a positive attitude.

Maintain Company equipment, vehicles, inventory, and data files. The individual who is awarded this position will be responsible for ensuring the necessary fieldwork for each project is complete, progressing a project from field to finish, and communicating progress with their supervisor(s).

General Assignment Distribution - 75% Fieldwork/25% Office/Research/Other

Perform any other assigned duties as the Supervisor may deem necessary from time to time

Qualifications

Experience with AutoCAD and Trimble GPS software and equipment preferred, but not required.

Position requires the ability to work reasonable overtime to meet project demands.

Appropriate communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to make appropriate field decisions when coordinating with co-workers, clients, contractors, and other consultants.

The ability to teach crew members on the job with a positive attitude.

Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 50 pounds for extended periods of time, endure adverse weather conditions, rough terrain, and inclines.

Ability to walk at least 2 miles through rough terrain and/or a 1:1 slope.

Possess the ability to interpret field notes, to perform necessary courthouse research, and to communicate findings and details to co-workers and clients.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Position requires frequent travel (some overnight) and may require the utilization of a company-owned vehicle. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and an excellent driving record.

Relevant education (coursework, certificates, degrees, etc.), minimum high school diploma or the ability to obtain such in the future.
