DES NEWS

At Davis Engineering and Surveying, workplace safety is more than just a checklist—it’s part of our culture. Whether we're out on a rural tract of land conducting a survey or on a busy construction site, our employees are trained to prioritize safety every step of the way.

From day one, our team is introduced to the safety standards we expect across all job sites. That includes understanding the layout of a site, identifying potential hazards, and knowing how to use their equipment properly. We believe that a strong foundation in workplace safety starts with thorough training. Before heading out to the field, employees are walked through safety protocols specific to the tasks they’ll be performing and the environments they’ll be working in.

Our team is regularly updated on new safety standards and procedures. We hold safety meetings consistently to review recent incidents in the industry, changes in regulations, and to simply keep safety top of mind. These meetings also give our crews a chance to bring up any safety concerns they’ve noticed during site fieldwork or inspections. Open communication is a big part of how we keep each other accountable and safe.

Another key element of our approach to workplace safety is regular equipment inspections. Before any job begins, our team inspects all tools, safety gear, and vehicles to make sure everything is functioning as it should. From tripods and robotic instruments to safety vests and hard hats, we don’t take chances with worn-out or faulty equipment. If something doesn't meet our standards, it gets pulled and replaced.

Hazard awareness is also something we emphasize during site planning. Before our team steps foot on a site, they’re already thinking through the conditions they might face—uneven terrain, nearby traffic, weather exposure, or wildlife. Every job site is different, and recognizing potential hazards early allows us to put preventive measures in place. That could mean flagging off areas with high traffic, adjusting equipment placement for better visibility, or scheduling around inclement weather.

We also encourage a team mentality when it comes to safety. It’s not just the supervisor’s job to enforce rules—everyone on site is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment. That shared responsibility helps ensure that no one overlooks important details. When everyone is watching out for each other, it makes a difference.

Ultimately, our goal is for every employee to return home at the end of the day without injury or incident. By consistently applying our safety standards, focusing on hazard awareness, and using proper equipment, we maintain a high level of workplace safety on every project we take on.

At Davis Engineering and Surveying, we take pride in the work we do—and we know that doing it safely is just as important as doing it well. Collection of site data is only successful when it’s backed by a safe, thoughtful approach, and we’re committed to making sure that happens every time.
